Visionary Unveils Series of Broadband Options in Sheridan
Sheridan, WY (ContentDesk) August 2, 2006 -- Visionary Communications has unveiled a series of broadband Internet options in Sheridan that will deliver metro-class services to businesses and residences in the area.
The company has completed installation of a multi-service broadband plant in Sheridan and is offering broadband options not seen before in the community of 17,000 people.Visionary's new broadband services include ADSL2+, SHDSL, Metro Ethernet, T1, bonded T1, and DS3.
Previously, the company has been limited to the sale of ADSL and T1s in Sheridan.
The introduction of SHDSL and Metro Ethernet is beneficial to businesses that are outgrowing their existing Internet connections.
The rollout of ADSL2+ is the company's third Wyoming deployment, and will provide dramatically-improved broadband speeds to residential and small business users.Visionary has selected equipment from Adtran as their multi-service broadband platform.
The Adtran equipment allows the company to deliver services capable of traveling telephone lines and fiber to the End User's location.
The evolution of telephone service from copper to fiber means that a company such as Visionary needs to embrace both transport methods.
Visionary chose a broadband platform that will deliver service to businesses regardless of what type of line at the location.Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) provides broadband Internet over a phone line to an End User location at speeds of 7Mbps down/800kbps up.
A T1, by comparison, offers 1.5Mbps down/1.5Mbps up.
Visionary's ADSL2+ is capable of 24Mbps down/1Mbps up, a dramatic increase over ADSL.
The company will sell the service to their End Users at speeds of up to 15Mbps/1Mbps.
ADSL and ADSL2+ are typically used in residential and small business applications.Symmetrical High-Bitrate Digital Subscriber Loop (SHDSL) provides broadband Internet over a phone line to an End User location at speeds of 2.3Mbps down/2.3Mbps up.
The service can be bonded to achieve speeds of 40Mbps down/40Mbps up.
Visionary has chosen equipment that will allow bonded SHDSL, typically termed Metro Ethernet, to be delivered to the End User as an ethernet connection, lowering the equipment expense for the End User to receive the service.
For locations on fiber connections, the company can provision T1 or DS3s to the End User."Sheridan is a great community, and we've spent quite a bit of money on this project," stated Brian Worthen, President and CEO of Visionary.
"We've installed broadband in smaller towns around Sheridan, and felt it appropriate to deliver additional services to our loyal customers."Worthen explained that 98% of their users in Sheridan would be interested in ADSL2+ and ADSL.
However, the company feels that providing those services to the 2% of the community that demand high-powered Internet connections such as SHDSL and Metro Ethernet will be beneficial in the long term.
Visionary understands that a Internet-intensive business can outgrow the capabilities in a community, and that offering these services will ultimately be an economic benefit."Rural Service Providers strive to deliver faster services, and are excited when they can deliver speeds 25 or 50 percent higher than before," relayed Jeremy Malli, Visionary's Network Engineer and self-proclaimed Alpha Geek.
"We can deliver 300 to 400 percent higher - we decided we'd embrace that ability, rather than doling out a slight improvement here and a slight improvement there."There are limitations to any copper-based broadband service, which Visionary describes as opportunities.
For instance, the community of Big Horn outside of Sheridan cannot receive ADSL2+.
The company will continue to provide ADSL there.
Some locations along Coffeen, Sheridan's main business thoroughfare, have limited broadband options.
Visionary provides fixed wireless in that area.
