In the US a technology known as WiMAX is being conceptualized that will make high-speed wireless Internet services available in areas much larger than a typical Wi-fi coffee bar. These wireless hotspots would match the size of Philadelphia or a rural community in the American heartland.
WiMAX would be developed to spread Internet facilities across cities, using radio networks with much wider ranges than Wi-fi, a system available in coffee shops. However, it is questionable how far this service would be commercially viable.
Once WiMAX is in force, some broadband operators already have plans to use it as a way to expand their networks, and city administrators are ready to offer broadband services cheap in public places such as parks or low-income housing areas.
WiMAX which should be capable of delivering 50 megabits to 100 megabits per second is therefore much superior to DSL and cable. Analysts therefore believe that this technology would be far more competitive especially in rural areas, where the technology isn't built out.
According to the latest market research report "WiMAX Market Forecast (2006-2010)" of RNCOS, WiMAX and other emerging high-speed wireless technologies are likely to capture 42% of the wireless broadband business over the next few years thereby making WiMAX a popular standard.
The report predicts that WiMAX technology would be widely accepted by the telecom market in Asia-Pacific countries. It is expected that the market there would have 3.8 million subscribers by 2009.
It discusses the various aspects of WiMAX technology and gives an overview of the current market trends. It introduces the standards followed, the spectrum allocations and their operational aspect. As it addresses the various drivers to WiMAX such as performance, coverage etc., and the scheme of implementation of this technology is also handled in the report.
It also covers company profiles of 10 vendors providing WiMAX services and equipment. The various applications and their potential users are also dealt with in the report.

Visionary Rolls out ADSL2+ in Casper
Casper, Wyoming (ContentDesk) March 19, 2005 -- Visionary Communications has deployed ADSL2+ in Casper, bringing the fastest broadband technology to Wyoming's second largest city.
ADSL2+ is a Digital Subscriber Line technology that delivers broadband internet at eight times the speed of cable internet.ADSL2+ allows the company to deliver up to 25Mbps of internet bandwidth to customers within a two mile range of downtown.
The speed is the equivalent of 16 T1 lines, or 466 simultaneous dialup modem connections."Broadband is about advertising at this stage.
Cable advertises they are faster than MOST DSL, and telephone companies advertise they are TYPICALLY faster than cable internet," says Brian Worthen, CEO and President of Visionary.
"This technology forces cable and telco to add more disclaimers, because Visionary's DSL is the fastest broadband in Casper."The company has also introduced a bonded DSL that allows a business to be served by eight lines...
Mammoth Networks Expands Wholesale DSL to Arizona, New Mexico
(ContentDesk) October 17, 2005 -- Mammoth Networks has expanded its wholesale Digital Subscriber Line service to Arizona and New Mexico.
The expansion allows the company to offer DSL through its Partners to 156 additional communities.Mammoth aggregates DSL in more than 600 cities in nine Western states, wholesaling network access to Service Providers that sell data connectivity.
The company's network supports the creation of private Wide Area Networks (WANs) throughout its coverage area.Mammoth allows its customers (termed Partners by the company) to connect Qwest DSL loops to the company's private network.
Because Partners can use Mammoth's network, they can justify expanding their coverage areas and are able to service a Partner's end users more effectively.
Without a wholesale option, Service Providers must order their own circuits within Qwest's territory, then build out a network to support their end users.
The cost of building out a private...

DSL Speed Test
DSL Speed Test helps to measure the download and upload rate of a DSL connection. Even though DSL internet connections offer reasonably good performance, it is a good idea to check the speed of the internet connection with DSL speed test. The speed test will help one to accurately judge the current line output or internet connection speed.
Several DSL Speed Test software programs are available right in the market, which provide an easy and efficient way to test the speed of the Internet connection. One can use any of these software programs to measure the Internet connection bandwidth before tweaking the network setup.
There are several websites also which offer the same facility. The download speed of the internet connection is calculated by sending a large file to one's computer. It is recommended that before starting the speed test, all running programs except the test window are closed. The unwanted temporary internet files (cache) have to be cleared....
